1 Hz = 1 cycle per second. WiFi uses the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands.
How to use: Frequency
- 1Type the frequency value.
- 2Pick the source and target units (Hz, kHz, MHz, GHz, THz).
- 3Read the result with every equivalent.
What is it for?
- Turn a CPU clock speed from MHz into GHz.
- Work with radio bands, WiFi (2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz) or audio signals.
- Solve electronics and telecom exercises.
Frequency: Hz and its multiples
Definition
A hertz (Hz) is one cycle per second. It measures sound waves, electrical signals, processor clocks and radio waves, and scales up through kHz, MHz, GHz and THz.
Frequency and period
The period is the inverse of frequency: T = 1/f. A 50 Hz signal, like the European mains supply, lasts 20 ms per cycle; a 3 GHz processor takes about 0.33 nanoseconds per cycle.
Orders of magnitude
The human ear hears roughly 20 Hz to 20 kHz. FM radio broadcasts around 88–108 MHz, wifi uses 2.4 and 5 GHz, and visible light is in the hundreds of THz.

Frequently asked questions
What is a hertz?+
A hertz (Hz) equals one cycle per second. kHz, MHz and GHz are multiples: 1,000,000 Hz = 1 MHz.
What frequency does WiFi use?+
WiFi uses the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, and more recently 6 GHz (WiFi 6E).
