URL encoding
Why encode
URLs only allow a limited set of characters. The rest are replaced by % and their hexadecimal value: a space is %20 and ñ is %C3%B1 (in UTF-8).
Component or full URL
encodeURIComponent encodes everything reserved (/, ?, &, =), ideal for parameter values; encodeURI keeps those separators and suits an already-formed URL.
Common mistakes
Encoding twice turns % into %25 and breaks the value. If you see sequences like %2520 in a URL, it was encoded twice.

Frequently asked questions
When should I use URL component vs full URL?+
The component encoding turns spaces into %20 and encodes every symbol. Full URL encoding only encodes invalid characters, keeping / and : intact.
