What is preserved
Headings, paragraphs, lists, links, images, bold, italics, quotes, code and tables have a direct Markdown equivalent. Inline styles, classes and scripts are lost in conversion.
Flavors
Markdown has dialects (CommonMark, GitHub Flavored Markdown) that differ on tables, task lists and strikethrough. Check which one your platform supports.
Security
If you plan to display the generated HTML on a website, sanitize it: Markdown allows embedded HTML and could include scripts.
